A Charles X Period Dressing Table In Rosewood Veneer, Opening Onto A Writing Surface
Artist: Très Bon ébéniste Parisien
A charming and elegant Charles X period dressing table, crafted from rosewood veneer, its rich and nuanced grain delicately highlighted by finely inlaid marquetry. The top is finished with a marble slab, lending nobility and refinement to the piece, while it accommodates a circular, pivoting mirror framed in rosewood marquetry and supported by two elegant carved uprights. This mirror rests on a small plinth, also decorated with inlaid stringing, perfectly harmonizing with the rest of the piece. The frieze conceals an ingeniously designed drawer, which opens to reveal a writing surface lined in green leather, allowing the table to be used both as a dressing table and as a small writing desk. This drawer also includes several compartments for accessories, jewelry, or writing supplies. The dressing table rests on four elegant cabriole legs, joined by a turned stretcher, giving the piece a light and airy feel and perfect stability. As with the finest furniture of this period, both the interior and exterior have been entirely French polished, highlighting the depth of the rosewood and the precision of the marquetry. Through the harmony of its proportions, the quality of its veneer, the refinement of its decoration, and the ingenuity of its interior design, this dressing table is a highly attractive example of French furniture from the Charles X period, both decorative and functional.
