"Pierre Frey - 6 Meters - Pair Of Silk Lampas Curtains From La Villa Les Cèdres"
Exceptional pair of large silk lampas curtains, attributed to Pierre Frey Provenance: Villa Les Cèdres, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat Period: second half of the 20th century Sumptuous and monumental pair of silk and cotton lampas curtains, richly decorated with foliage scrolls, floral interlacing and arabesques delicately woven in a palette of gold, beige and ivory tones. The design, of classical elegance, is inspired by the great Lyon fabrics of the 18th century, in the spirit of the refined creations of the Maison Pierre Frey, to which this pair is attributed. The fabric, of remarkable density and suppleness, reveals a subtle play of reflections between the background satin and the raised patterns, giving the whole a shimmering luminosity. The quality of execution, the majestic fall and the careful finishing testify to a custom workshop work, commissioned for a prestigious interior. This pair of very large curtains has spectacular proportions: a height of 3 meters and a total width of 6 meters, or 3 meters per panel (approximately 1.35 meters at the rod level). Their fullness and generous drape underline the richness of the fabric and the nobility of their provenance. The sewn pleats, the full lining and the reinforced upper braid confirm a high-quality workmanship, in the pure tradition of the great Parisian decoration houses. Coming directly from the mythical Villa Les Cèdres in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, a legendary property that belonged to King Leopold II of Belgium, then to various private collectors, and considered one of the most sumptuous residences in the world, these curtains embody the splendor and art of living of the great French decorative tradition.
