JAPAN - Edo Period (1603-1868). Samurai Tanto. FUSHI and KASHIRA set in chased, patinated, and gilded iron, decorated with Jurojin, one of the Seven Lucky Gods, and his deer. TSUKA in wood covered with ray skin and black silk braid. MENUKI in chased, patinated, gilded, and silvered copper depicting a boar. KOZUKA in gilded copper depicting a dragonfly perched on a gourd, the blade signed. TSUBA kakui-maru-gata in wrought and chased iron, inlaid with gilded and silvered copper, decorated with waterfowl (wear). SAYA in wood covered with natural shagreen. Simple HABAKI in gilded copper decorated with oblique striations (wear). Straight blade, regular, straight and well-defined hamon, tang pierced twice, unsigned. Sold with stand. Dimensions: 5.2 x 52 x 4 cm. Blade length including tang: 44 cm.
