Iron Tsuba With Zōgan Decoration – Edo Period (17th–19th Century)
A mokkō-gata-shaped openwork iron tsuba (sukashi) decorated with vegetal scrolls and stylized motifs inlaid in brass (zōgan).
The rim and internal reserves are adorned with finely applied vegetal decoration, creating an elegant contrast between the dark patina of the iron and the gilt inlays.
The nakago-ana (the central boss) is framed by lateral hitsu-ana (the central boss) harmoniously integrated into the composition.
The piece displays a beautiful antique patina and wear consistent with its age.
Minor wear and losses of inlay are characteristic of its age.
No restoration is visible.
Work in the style of the Heianjō Zōgan school (Kyōto).
