Antique Japanese Cloisonné Vase With Bird And Flower Decoration, Ando Workshop, Meiji-taisho Period

Antique Japanese cloisonné enamel vase decorated with a bird perched among flowering branches and leaves.

The vase has a soft ivory coloured ground with finely worked cloisonné wires forming a naturalistic composition of a bird beside a large blossom and foliage in shades of green, blue, aubergine and red. The delicate shading and careful execution of the design are characteristic of the work produced by the celebrated Ando workshop of Nagoya during the late Meiji to Taisho period.

The elegant baluster form is finished with simple metal mounts to the rim and foot.

Japanese cloisonné enamels of this quality were widely admired in the late 19th and early 20th century and were produced both for the domestic market and for export to Europe and America.

Height: 22 cm.

Condition: Good condition. The enamel decoration is excellent with no damage. There is a small fault to the metal at the foot rim as shown in the photographs.
