Antique Dayak Bronze Ear Weights Kayan Kenyah Borneo, C19th

An authentic pair of antique Dayak bronze ear weights from Borneo, attributed to the Kayan or Kenyah peoples, dating to the late 19th century.

These traditional ear ornaments are cast in bronze and feature the characteristic spiral hook designed to pass through elongated earlobes, terminating in a finely modelled bulbous drop form with incised geometric detailing. The elegant spiral and balanced proportions are typical of this well-known Dayak form.

Such ear weights were worn as markers of status, identity, and beauty, with the weight of the metal helping to maintain and extend the elongation of the earlobes over time.

The pair displays a rich, dark patina with areas of wear revealing warm bronze tones beneath, consistent with age and use. The surfaces show minor irregularities and casting variations typical of traditional manufacture.
