Gilt bronze group depicting two entwined lovers, executed in the late 19th–early 20th century. The composition is inspired by James Pradier’s celebrated marble Satyr and Bacchante (Salon of 1834, Louvre), here reinterpreted in a more intimate and erotic spirit. The modelling and subject also recall the work of Belgian sculptor Jef Lambeaux (1852–1908), renowned for his sensuous studies of the human form.
This finely cast reduction rests on an integral “cushion” base with foliate detail. Original gilded surface with minor traces of wear consistent with age. There is a faint, possibly illegible signature on the underside.
Dimensions: Width 13 cm, Height 8 cm
Condition: Good overall; some rubbing and minor surface wear
Period: Late 19th / Early 20th century
Material: Gilded bronze
An elegant and collectible piece of decorative sculpture, reflecting both Pradier’s academic influence and Lambeaux’s erotic imagination.
