Exceptional and rare Art Nouveau-era bronze bas-relief with a golden patina, titled Les Armes de France, created by the sculptor Jules DESBOIS (1851–1935), a renowned artist and collaborator of Auguste Rodin.
The work depicts a draped female allegory surrounded by ears of grain and foliage, characteristic of the artist’s fluid and powerful compositions.
Signed J. Desbois at the bottom left.
The foundry mark of the prestigious foundry A.A. HÉBRARD – Paris is engraved in the lower right corner.
This plaque is a unique historical artifact linked to the world of fencing during the Belle Époque. It served as a trophy for theIntersalles Mixed Foil Challengein 1904, donated by Mr. Georges Breittmayer.
It features a complete engraving of the winners from the Salle du Cercle de l’Escrime, notably mentioning the fencing master and great Olympic champion Jean-Baptiste MIMIAGUE, bronze medalist at the 1900 Paris Olympics
