Antique Chinese Export Silver Tea Strainer, Go Players

Antique Chinese silver tea strainer (tea basket), dating to the late Qing or first years of the 20th century.
Beautifully made in repoussé and chased silver, the sides decorated with an animated scholar’s scene.

Two robed figures sit across a low table, playing Go (Weiqi) in a garden setting.
Around them are flowering prunus branches, bamboo, rocks, and scrolling foliage.
The figures’ stylised faces and the textured background are characteristic of Canton / Guangzhou and early Hong Kong workshop production of the period.
A charming and functional object made with fine detail.

Height (excluding handle): 3.6 cm
