Antique Large Chinese Export Blue And White Porcelain Plate Cranes, Qianlong C18th

Antique large Chinese export blue and white porcelain octagonal plate dating to the Qianlong period of the Qing dynasty, 18th century.

This beautiful example of Chinese export porcelain made for the European market is decorated in cobalt blue with a refined garden landscape. The scene shows cranes beneath a pine tree beside flowering peonies and a scholar’s rock, with a small garden fence in the background.

The crane and pine tree are important symbols in Chinese culture representing longevity and harmony, while the peony symbolizes prosperity and honor. Together they form a traditional auspicious decorative theme.

The central scene is framed by a delicate geometric diaper border, while the rim carries a repeating lattice pattern typical of Chinese export porcelain produced for the Western market during the 18th century.

The elegant octagonal form and large size are characteristic of fine export porcelain made at the Jingdezhen kilns during the Qianlong reign.
