Military Trap For Men. Great War 1914-1918.
This is a jaw trap of a type well-known in our countryside, used to capture animals, but this one is exceptionally large and heavy: 16 kilograms, 110 cm long, and 52 cm in diameter. This type of trap was used to protect trenches from enemy night raids during the First World War. Later, during the Second World War (1939-1945), these traps were probably still in use. A drawing held at the Army Museum in London shows a British soldier caught in a similar trap. While the construction is already industrialized with machined bolts, there is still a significant element of forging involved; indeed, the points and the platform are hammer-riveted, which is why it could be dated to the early 20th century. A very rare historical artifact.
