Important Louis XVI Period Half-moon Console Table In Carved And Gilded Wood, 145cm
An important half-moon console table in carved and gilded wood. It rests on four tapered, fluted legs joined by a stretcher adorned with a row of coins and a vase laden with flowers. The openwork frieze features interlacing patterns and connecting dice with rosettes in high relief. It supports cascading flowers held by anthe leaf clasps, simulated nails, and a large ribbon bow at the center. The console is topped with its original white marble slab with a cavetto molding. Louis XVI period, Parisian work from the 1780s in the style of Georges Jacob. Besides its large size, the elegance and quality of its decoration, this console table has the significant advantage of being mounted on four legs, thus avoiding the need for permanent wall mounting like a two-legged wall console. In very good condition, the gold leaf gilding has been cleaned and restored. The carving is of fine quality, in high relief. No damage to the decor, no accidents.
