"Cachepot On Column Delphin Massier & Cie, Vallauris Circa 1900. "
A cachepot on its matching column in glazed ceramic, a model listed in the catalogue of the Delphin Massier & Cie Art Pottery, Vallauris, circa 1900. Although the piece is unsigned, it corresponds precisely to a model featured in the factory's period catalogue, published after the death of Delphin Massier (1836–1907). The model was offered in various heights; the example presented here is the smallest listed size. The Massier factory, Delphin Massier & Cie, founded in Vallauris in the 19th century, played a major role in introducing artistic ceramics to the French Riviera. It is particularly renowned for: its naturalistic forms, its polychrome enamels with subtle nuances, and its creations intended for winter gardens and the bourgeois interiors of the Belle Époque. Description: The cachepot features: a baluster-shaped body with vertical ribs, a flowing neck treated as a blooming corolla, and a decoration of stylized leaves in high relief. The matching column has a slender, fluted form, punctuated by applied leafy scrolls, resting on a molded circular base. The whole creates a particularly elegant and spectacular vegetal silhouette, typical of the Art Nouveau style. Enamel: A very beautiful enamel gradient in shades of turquoise blue nuanced with gray, enhanced with a speckled pink applied to the raised areas. The quality of the glaze and the richness of the chromatic effects are characteristic of Massier's productions around 1900. Dimensions: Total height: 102 cm. Condition: Good overall condition. Note: – a small, old chip on a leaf of the neck (visible in close-up), – slight signs of wear consistent with age. No structural restoration observed.
