Pair Of Louis XV – Louis XVI Transition Chairs, Parisian Work, Circa 1775.

A beautiful pair of 18th-century chairs in the Louis XV-Louis XVI Transition style, dating from 1770-1775, Parisian work, crafted from natural waxed beech (formerly painted), a respectful finish that highlights the wood grain and the quality of the carving. The base, distinctly Louis XVI in style, consists of tapered and fluted legs, joined to the seat rail by connecting blocks carved with rosettes, emblematic of the return to antiquity then in vogue in Parisian production. The cabriolet back retains a still-flexible, violin-shaped form, inherited from the Louis XV style, softening the overall silhouette. This formal coexistence is characteristic of the Transition style, as seen on many Parisian chairs from the 1770s. The chairs are in good condition, without splices, and were restored and reupholstered several years ago, according to traditional methods: traditional webbing, careful padding, silk cover with a folly and tree of life motif inspired by the 18th century, in very good condition and of high quality. The backs of the chairs are covered in a checkered canvas, in accordance with traditional practice. Finished with matching braid. The wood has a beautiful, even, and warm antique patina, perfectly revealed by the wax. An elegant and decorative pair, perfectly representative of Parisian taste in the 1770s, ideal for a living room, bedroom, or dining room, in a classic interior as well as in a more contemporary setting. Dimensions: Back height: 85 cm; Seat height: 44 cm; Seat width: 46 cm; Overall depth: 48 cm
