Silver Ciborium - Cathedral Model - 19th Century

An exceptional silver ciborium, probably Belgian. Baroque Revival, circa 1880.
Decorated with images and scenes from the life of Jesus Christ, it is richly finished with cabochons, faceted glass, and natural stones. The base is adorned with angels' heads and wings, ears of wheat, and vines. Biblical scenes are also depicted: "The Resurrection of Christ," "Jesus Comforting the Weeping Women, with Mount Calvary in the Background," and "Jesus Laid in the Tomb."
The knop is decorated with three angels holding lilies and an anchor, a symbol of hope. The cup is decorated with images of the Holy Family: Joseph, Mary, and Jesus Christ, as well as Eucharistic symbols. The lid is further embellished with images of the apostles Peter and Paul and John the Baptist. The whole is surmounted by an ornate cross and the Lamb of God. Solid silver, marked 800/1000.
Probably a Belgian mark used from 1869 onwards. A Dutch import mark, used between 1814 and 1893, is visible on the base. The lid also bears this import mark.
Given the engraving on the base, mentioning FJP Van Etten (priest in the Amsterdam area), it is likely that the ciborium was made around 1880. Remarkable condition.
Large dimensions: 57 cm high by 19 cm wide, weighing 1794 grams.
