P.marcion, Stamped Gueridon Table From The Empire-consulate Period.

Artist: Pierre Benoit Marcion
A magnificent example of Empire-Consulate period furniture, this mahogany and mahogany veneer pedestal table is stamped P.MARCION, for Pierre-Benoît Marcion (1769-1840), a favorite cabinetmaker (along with the Jacob brothers) of Emperor Napoleon.
It is adorned with finely chased and mercury-gilded bronze mounts depicting central rosettes and stylized palmettes.
The top rests on three tapered, square-section legs embellished with gilt bronze capitals featuring acanthus leaf motifs at the top and palmette or water leaf motifs at the base.
The legs are joined by a concave triangular base, a very common structure during the Empire period, ensuring perfect stability while maintaining an airy appearance. The top is made of antique green marble, distinguished from sea green by its darker shades (brown, dark gray) and white veining. It is set in a gilt bronze ingot.

Imperial supplier Pierre-Benoît Marcion was one of Napoleon I's favorite cabinetmakers. Between 1805 and 1814, he furnished numerous imperial residences such as Fontainebleau, Compiègne, Saint-Cloud, and the Petit Trianon. His furniture is renowned for its technical perfection, its understated elegance, the use of high-quality mahogany, and its rigorous proportions.
He often used finely chased gilt bronze mounts with palmette, rosette, and Egyptian head motifs. From 1798, he established his workshop in Paris under the name "Aux Égyptiens" (At the Egyptians), which explains the strong influence of the Egyptian Revival style found in many of his creations.

In excellent condition.
Period marble, previously restored in several places.
Stamped P.MARCION on the underside of the top.
