Pair Of Gilded Bronze Candlesticks From The Directoire-consulate Period. Late 18th Century.
A rare pair of candlesticks from the late 18th century, dating from the Directoire or Consulate period, made of gilded and chiseled bronze.
The circular base is chiseled with a continuous frieze of laurel leaves along the rim. The semi-spherical, fluted counter-base is surmounted by a ring chased with heart-shaped rays.
The fluted quiver-shaped shaft is topped by a wide ring guilloché with a cross-hatch pattern.
The spherical bowl is adorned with an interlaced frieze, and its cup is chiseled with laurel leaves, echoing the motif of the base.
In excellent condition, with its original gilding. Shows normal signs of wear.
