Pair Of Empire Candlesticks In Solid Silver, Domenico Masotti (rome, 1815-1858)
Artist: Domenico Masotti
Superb pair of solid silver candlesticks, Empire period, made in Rome in the first half of the 19th century by the goldsmith Domenico Masotti (1815-1858).
Each of the candlesticks has a tapered shaft, adorned with finely chiseled lion heads linked by garlands of flowers and foliage, resting on a circular molded base richly decorated with Greek friezes, anthemions and rows of pearls, typically neoclassical. The attachments are highlighted with claws and palmettes, testifying to the elegance and formal rigor of the Roman Empire style.
Hallmarks:
- Master mark "D 124M" in a lozenge, corresponding to Domenico Masotti, goldsmith active in Rome between 1815 and 1858.
- Control mark of the Papal States: papal tiara and crossed keys.
High quality work, refined and representative of 19th century Roman goldsmithing.
Empire period. Very good condition. Slight creasing on one of the shafts.
