"Crimson Velvet Valance Embroidered With Gold Thread In Majolica Stitch - Italy, Late 17th Century"
Second half of the 17th century, Italy. A precious crimson cut silk velvet lambrequin or antependium with embossed gold thread embroidery, dating from the late 17th century. The Baroque design, with its grand, ordered pattern of large arabesque fleurons laden with tulips and daisies, is finished with majolica stitch embroidery in gold thread, highlighted with linen-core thread. The fringes are made of wool cord in the same color, lined with knotted fringes of curled gold thread. The lining is later made of burgundy satin (with stains). The velvet and crests show slight wear from age and use, with minor oxidation. There are no stains or holes. In excellent condition for its age. Dimensions: 168 cm x 26 cm, fringes 6 cm.
