Photographic Projection Lamp For Siris Magic Lantern Circa 1900
The Siris lamp is a model of magic lantern produced around 1900. The Siris lamp was manufactured by the Paris-based company Mollier & Cie, one of the leading French manufacturers of magic lanterns and optical accessories in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Siris lamp is made of polished brass and is equipped with an Auer burner (or incandescent gas burner), which provides a brighter and more stable light than traditional oil lamps. Its base is inscribed "LAMPE - SIRIS - DMR PARIS". Its industrial design, with visible structural components and a wick adjustment mechanism, suggests practical use for providing bright, controlled lighting. This piece represents an early form of photographic lighting technology, essential before the advent of electric light for projection and darkroom work.
