A high-quality mythological clock from the Charles X period, circa 1840. It features a finely chased bronze case, entirely covered in sumptuous mercury gilding, which is remarkably well preserved.

The composition is dominated by a prominent figure of Orpheus, depicted seated on a stylized rock. His head is delicately inclined towards the heavens, and he holds his lyre, his emblematic attribute, executed with remarkable sculptural finesse. The dial is integrated into the rock: it consists of a white enamel disc, highlighted by an elegant border of water leaves, accentuating the overall refinement.

Beside him, a seated lion, with a powerful build and expressive modeling, turns its head and gaze towards the musician. This mythological bas-relief powerfully and poetically illustrates the theme of Orpheus charming wild beasts, a symbol of universal harmony and the power of music.

The mechanism is entirely original, without any alterations. It features a wire suspension and an antique bell chime, striking the hours and half-hours, and is fully functional.

A distinctive clock, combining quality casting, rich iconography, and decorative elegance.
