Large Pair Of Louis XVI-style 19th-century Candlesticks
ORDERING AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FROM OUR WEBSITE
This
imposing pair of Napoleon III period candelabra, dating to around 1860,
is distinguished by its monumental scale, elegant architecture and
exceptional decorative richness. Each piece features an urn-shaped body
in white Carrara marble, resting on an imposing architectural base in
green marble veined with white, creating a refined contrast with the
brilliance of the bronze.
The composition is surmounted by a five-light bouquet, with branches
skilfully arranged in scrolls and foliate motifs, entirely executed in
finely chased and gold-gilt bronze. The particularly abundant
ornamentation combines acanthus leaves, palmettes, foliage, floral
motifs, garlands, gadroons and geometric friezes, while the handles and
mounts elegantly follow the shape of the urn.
The ensemble, spectacular in presence and highly decorative, bears
witness to a remarkable mastery of architecture and the decorative
arts, in which the nobility of the marbles is combined with the finesse
of the chasing and the sumptuousness of the gilding.
