Important Gilt Bronze Torchère With Winged Angels – 19th Century
An important, richly sculpted gilt bronze torchère/candle holder, resting on a four-legged, canted base. The base is adorned with four finely chiseled, seated winged angels holding symbolic attributes (a book, a gesture of prayer), demonstrating high-quality workmanship and a strong decorative presence. The polygonal stem is decorated with niches, fluting, and moldings, embellished with polychrome cabochons and a central inset floral motif, lending an elegant polychromy to the whole. The upper socket is designed to hold a pillar candle. A decorative object of character, ideal for a classic interior, an ecclesiastical setting, or a display for a collection. Materials: Gilt bronze with antique gilding and a beautiful, even patina from use. Condition: Very good overall condition. Normal wear to the gilding and slight traces of old oxidation in the recesses.
