Empire-style Chest Of Drawers In Flamed Mahogany, Early 19th Century
An elegant Empire-period chest of drawers in flamed mahogany veneer, featuring four front drawers. It displays remarkable veneer quality with symmetrical butterfly-wing grain on the drawers and sides.
The front is framed by freestanding columns of solid mahogany adorned with chiseled and gilded bronze rings, a characteristic feature of Empire-style furniture. The drawers are fitted with gilded bronze handles and keyholes decorated with floral wreaths. The top is made of dark gray marble, either original or period.
The piece stands on turned legs typical of the period. The interior of the drawers is made of oak and retains its beautiful antique patina.
