In this magnificent oil on canvas of impressive dimensions, the Barcelona-based painter Emili Valentines depicts the moment when, after a long day's work, he turns off the last lights in his studio. The sofa, which likely once sheltered a model, lies motionless on the floor. Only a desk lamp illuminates the room, reflecting a mirror, in the manner of Las Meninas. The artist's cat bids him farewell from the far end of the room, which it will soon be responsible for guarding at night.
