A beautiful sketch, likely based on the scene of fishing boats returning to shore along a beach. A fisherman’s wife approaches carrying a basket; two horses on the beach stand ready to help unload the catch. A fairly luminous painting, it is signed in the lower right corner by José Hernández Herranz, who was an antique dealer at Madrid’s Rastro market and a painter during the second half of the 20th century. A student of Vicente Segura and strongly influenced by the art of Joaquín Sorolla, José Herranz was able to capture the distinctive light of the Spanish coast. The painting is sold unframed.
