Jean Thomas Painter 1923 - 2019 Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts of Lyon, Jean Thomas exhibited early works from 1946 onwards, treated in the wake of the great painters of modernism. "The influences of Fernand Léger and Henri Matisse resonate in his early canvases, often featuring muted, brownish-gray tones, and one also finds echoes of the explorations of his contemporaries, such as Bernard Buffet, particularly in his series on religious art." From 1955 onward, Jean Thomas turned to landscape painting, which he now depicted with a highly personal style, delivering representations of almost photographic precision. Through a meticulous study of light and great pictorial mastery, his works bear witness to a movement: post-war realist landscapes. While Paris and its surrounding region offered him an inexhaustible playground, Jean Thomas flourished through travel—across France and the world, from the United States to Polynesia. He kept a notebook in which each painting was cataloged and located. He ventured to the four corners of the world. We can thus follow his travels in Corsica, Normandy, Auvergne, and New York. A professional painter, Jean Thomas has exhibited several times in Paris (Galerie d'art de la Place Beauvau, Galerie de la Tournelle), throughout France and abroad, from Tokyo to Florence and Brussels.
