The lid is surmounted by an openwork finial set with an old silver coin. The coin, probably a Danish riksdaler from the late 17th or early 18th century, bears the abbreviated royal titulary "D·G· REX · DAN · NOR · VAN · GOT" (Dei Gratia Rex Daniae, Norvegiae, Vandalorum et Gothorum). The inside of the lid displays the reverse of the same coin, adorned with the crowned Danish royal arms and the motto "PIETATE ET IUSTITIA," emblematic of the Danish monarchy of the time.
The presence of this coin lends the object additional historical and numismatic interest, illustrating the common practice in Northern Europe of reusing royal coins in prestigious silverware.
The mount bears the maker's mark, in a rectangular cartouche, with the initials HW.
The base of the porcelain retains an old inventory number painted in red, and the lid contains an old collector's label.
A fine example of the encounter between Oriental export porcelain and 18th-century European silverware, intended for aristocratic use.
Total height: 17.5 cm.
