Louis XVI Period Covered Pot In Sèvres Porcelain And Gilt Bronze

The pot presented here is an object of exceptional quality, both in the bronze work and its ornamental composition. It is made of two materials: a central body of Sèvres blue porcelain and a gilt bronze mount. The decorative elements include faun heads for the handles, a pine cone encircled by laurel leaves for the lid handle, and an interlaced wreath encircling the top of the pot. The base is supported by a fluted foot encircled by a ribboned laurel wreath. The plinth is adorned with a garland of acanthus leaves. A small detail that testifies to the quality of the object is that the handles, the pine cone on the lid, and the central axis that holds the pot together are secured by flower-shaped nuts.
