18th Century Cast Iron Fireplace Backplate

Large cast iron fireplace mantel dating from the late 17th/early 18th century, the Louis XIV period. The motif depicts King Louis XIV reclining on his leg, a swan symbolizing purity, with two cherubs at his feet. Above him is a canopy frame surrounded by valances, with draperies on either side completing the decoration. To the right is an architectural scene. The mantel is in good condition, with only a slight crack (see photos).
