Fireback With Portrait Of Charles II Of Spain - 17th C.
Rare 17th century fireback, dated 1673, in good condition, depicting Charles II (Carlos II von Hasburg), aged 12, known as the Bewitched (1661-1700), son of Philip IV of Spain and his second wife, Maria Anna of Austria. On his father's death, he became the last king of Spain in the Habsburg dynasty, of India, Naples, Sardinia and Sicily, duke of Burgundy and Milan and sovereign of the Netherlands, between 1665 and 1700.
In a medallion encircled by a laurel wreath, accosted by C and 2, Charles II wears the collar of the Golden Fleece, presented on an altar dated 1673, on which rests on either side the imperial crown and scepter.
Plaque found at Francorchamps in the province of Liège, Belgium.
Note a visible crack on the back side, but not visible on the front.
