Bronze Lion, Hyena, Beast From Benin Dahomey Cotonou Vintage/antique
A very beautiful handcrafted bronze piece from Dahomey, Cotonou, Benin, Africa. The statuette depicts a lion, hyena, or other predator holding prey in its mouth—a sheep, antelope, etc. The bronze has a uniform and clean original dark/brown patina. The work features extremely fine details and is hand-hammered. Vintage, dating from the 1940s-1970s or earlier. It measures 19cm in maximum length, 13cm without the tail, approximately 8cm in maximum width, and approximately 16.5cm in maximum height to the head. In very good overall condition, with a small, discreet chip on the top of the left ear; otherwise, nothing significant. This is a very fine and meticulously crafted piece that will delight lovers of African art. Approximately 1kg.
