Cocqueteau : 19th Century French Solid Silver Coffee Pot, Reims, Châlons Sur Marne, C. 1775
Artist: Jean-baptiste Ier Cocqueteau
An extremely rare Louis XV period solid silver pot from Châlons-sur-Marne, resting on three "sabot" feet. The pear-shaped body is engraved with a monogram (see photo). It has its original blackened wood side handle and a spinning-top-shaped lid finial. It bears the charge mark (RS monogram) and discharge mark (pistol grip), the hallmark of the town hall for Châlons-sur-Marne c.1775 (date letter "V" surmounted by the town's coat of arms), and the hallmark attributed to the master silversmith Jean-Baptiste I Cocqueteau, admitted in 1741. This extremely rare pot is in very good condition, with only minor scratches from use. For the discerning collector...
