Late 18th Century Directoire Temple Clock
This
refined temple clock, crafted from white Carrara statuary marble and decorated
with mercury-gilded bronze, features elegant bronze decorations featuring
geometric and plant motifs, enriched with garlands of flowers and palmettes on
the sides of the columns. The pendulum is adorned with a classic sunburst
figure, while the opening dial displays the hours in Roman numerals and bears
the inscription "Paris," testifying to its provenance from the
clockmaker. The silk-thread-suspension mechanism features a striking mechanism
that strikes the hours and half-hours. This is a clock of great taste and
refinement, capable of furnishing any space with class. French Directoire
manufacture, around the end of the 18th century.
