Flintlock Rifle Inlaid With Silver. Ottoman Empire Circa 1800.
Artist: Ottoman
The barrel and all the metal parts are inlaid with silver. These are not simply damascened applications but true, deep inlays that required carving into the steel. All the silver motifs are very thick and thus securely held in place, having withstood the test of time. The stock, inlaid with bronze wire, is made of fruitwood. All the inlays are of excellent quality, the designs are harmonious and precise. There are very few missing pieces. We believe this weapon was made in the late 18th or early 19th century in the western part of the Ottoman Empire (the Balkans). Some screws have likely been replaced. Length 110 cm.
