The statuette represents a Bijin (pretty woman) in a richly embroidered kimono. The hair style is from the end of the 17th century but the statuette was created in the kilns of Kutani around 1900 during the Meiji period. Very beautiful enamels, firing accidents due to the expansion of the porcelain visible underneath and on one side of the base, the uncovered part, presents tiny brown spots due to the iron oxide contained in the insufficiently purified clay, which is common on ancient Japanese porcelain. The whole is of rare elegance. Good condition, no chips or missing parts. Height: 38cm.
