Pair Of Gilt Bronze Andirons, Adjustable Bar. Rocaille Style. 19th Century.
Pair of ormolu andirons with Louis XV Rocaille decoration, joined by an adjustable openwork central bar allowing the andirons to be adapted to the width of the fireplace (from 90cm to 120).
The uprights are decorated with volutes, acanthus leaves and ajours, in the Louis XV Rocaille style, they slide on the central bar, at the back, a system of iron rods sliding in bronze bridges ensures the adjustment of the spacing.
Empirical construction technique, nuts cut with a saw or chisel, hand-threaded screws. Some screws protrude from the visible parts and are simply hammered out, as in the 18th century, without excessive finishing. Traces of old, worn gilding. Height: 36cm Width: 90 to 120cm. France 19th century or earlier.
