Shiwan Stoneware Jar. Guangdong China Qing Period.
Artist: Shiwan Guangdong
Shiwan stoneware jar. Guangdong China, Qing period
The jar is lathe-mounted in Shiwan stoneware. The very thick body is covered with a thick blue glaze with purple hues. The squat, powerful shape is more reminiscent of the heavy Ming style than Qing elegance. We date it cautiously from the early Qing dynasty, but it is likely to be from an earlier period. This type of stoneware is advertised in specialized museums as "Shiwan 17°-19°siècle". Good condition, no repairs. Numerous scratches from use. 30 x 27cm. Numerous firing accidents. For some years now, fakes have been invading the market, but for the moment they are of low quality and detectable.
