Alabaster Plaque. Circumcision Of Christ. Flanders, 16th Century.
Artist: Malines
Carved alabaster plaque depicting the circumcision of Christ. Gilded details. The sculptures are in high relief and of excellent quality; the figures are expressive within a rich setting. It is the work of a highly skilled artist, of a quality far superior to the many plaques produced during this period. Antique giltwood frame. Annotations from a former collector are pasted onto the reverse. Cracked and very dirty. No restoration, no missing parts. We have chosen to offer it as is, but we can clean it upon request. Flemish work from the 16th century. 235 x 195 mm. Plaque only: 130 x 95 mm.
