Enameled Porcelain Vase In The Imari Style. Japan Arita Circa 1800.
Artist: Arita
Porcelain vase decorated in Imari style with numerous enamels. Shishi with peonies alternate with what appear to be Makara, sea dragons with outstretched fins, rising from the waves. All these highly symbolic representations lead us to believe that this vase was created for Japanese connoisseurs. Much rarer and of better quality than earlier Imari models made for Europe. Japan, Arita kilns circa 1780-1820. Firing defects, wear from use. No repairs, no chips or cracks. Height: 42cm.
