An Indian matchlock rifle known as a toradar (torador) - North India, probably Rajasthan, 19th century. The stock is made of lacquered wood painted with hunting scenes. These scenes depict hunters and dogs chasing tigers and other game, as well as tigers themselves on the hunt. It has a matchlock ignition mechanism and is in working order. The heavy, round barrel has a fluted and chiseled muzzle. The numbers 733 are engraved on the barrel, likely an inventory number from a royal arsenal. It is in good overall condition.
