Bronze statuette of a bishop saint, medieval style, 19th century
This statuette depicts a bishop wearing a mitre, holding a miniature church on his left arm. This attribute is generally used for the founding saints of an abbey or church, or for the patron saints of a diocese. It could, for example, be Saint Martin or Saint Ambrose. The left hand would originally have held a crosier.
The statuette is mounted on a wooden base decorated with large acanthus leaves in relief, which appears to be a reused small capital.
Very good condition, brown patina.
Total height: 27.5 cm
Height of the bronze: 20 cm
Base: 8.5 x 8.5 cm
