This votive sculpture may have been carved between the late 15th century and the early 16th century. It was probably produced in the workshop of the Gagini family, an illustrious family of sculptors originally from the Ticino area, who first worked in Genoa and then moved to Calabria and, especially, Sicily, where their works significantly contributed to the development of a "Renaissance" style on the island.
The statuette shows visible traces of gold highlights.
The Madonna's crown and a portion of the left corner of the base appear to have been reconstructed with other materials in antiquity.
It measures 32 cm.
We include a guarantee of historical authenticity with the sale.
