Terracotta "madonna And Child" From The Lombard School, Dating From The Third Quarter Of The 15th Century

An important 15th-century devotional work of art. It is a sculpture created in Lombardy during the second half of the 15th century.
The piece, carved from a low vantage point—so much so that one might assume it was originally placed high up—was originally polychrome, as suggested by some faint traces of color on the back of the sculpture, and was likely created to adorn an exterior architectural tympanum. but over time—and due in part to weathering—it completely lost its color, revealing the incisions made by the sculptor in preparation for the complex painted decoration.
The artistic quality of the work suggests influences from the contemporary sculpture of Michele da Firenze and Donatello’s Paduan period, which may have been reflected in an artist of northern origin whose style was still exquisitely late Gothic. 
It is plausible that this could be the work of an artist known as the Master of the Singing Angels, who was very prolific in the Brescia area; we have only a few surviving examples of his work, preserved at the Santa Giulia Museum in Brescia and at the Louvre.
