"Ernest L. Bonnotte (1873-1954) Riverbank, Burgundy. Pointillism. Dubois-pillet Hayet Luce"
New oil on panel by Lucien Ernest Bonnotte depicting a riverbank, with a tiny trace of his signature in the lower left corner. Nevertheless, I guarantee this work 200%. It comes (like the other Bonnotte painting I am offering) from a Burgundian estate. The painting measures 35 x 27 cm without the frame. This is a magnificent divisionist composition by L. Bonnotte, who here paints a riverbank, most likely in Burgundy. As is his custom, his highly divided brushstrokes are immediately recognizable, and as is also his custom, he skillfully plays with the support, leaving subtle areas untouched. His palette is obviously very colorful. A skillful blend of pointillism and synthetism, or of Dubois-Pillet and Le Sidaner. A true little pointillist masterpiece that rivals the masters of this movement such as Henri Martin, Achille Laugé, Maximilien Luce, Léo Gausson, Louis Hayet, or Dubois-Pillet, except that Bonnotte is much more accessible than all these painters. I am only briefly introducing Bonnotte, the famous Burgundian pointillist painter. Born in Dijon, he later studied in Paris. He was quickly influenced by early Neo-Impressionist painters such as Seurat and Signac, and rapidly adopted their Divisionist style, which he would only abandon at the end of his life, when it broadened and became highly stylized, much like other famous Divisionist painters such as Léo Gausson and Maximilien Luce. His work can sometimes be compared to that of Gustave Loiseau, and at other times more to Henri Martin, or even Le Sidaner or Dubois-Pillet, as is the case with the work I am presenting. His favorite subjects were, in part, Burgundy and Brittany. He exhibited in numerous salons, even achieving some success, before falling into obscurity. Today, known only to a handful of collectors, it is solely thanks to his excellent technique, professionalism, and the rarity of his canvases that some occasionally achieve very good results at auction. He is, however, among the rare true French pointillist painters who painted between 1885 and 1910. The painting is in very good condition and is delivered unframed. The artwork is guaranteed authentic.
