The case is quadrangular, with both sides made of agate, joined by a solid silver mount. The mount was originally entirely vermeil, but the silver plating has worn away from the outside.
The agate is magnificent, very translucent with a delicate cloud-like pattern. Each side is carved into the agate to form a gentle curve, very pleasant to the touch. These are not simple plaques.
One of the tabs holding the cigarettes is engraved "Philippe O.H."
The mount is not hallmarked but has been tested with a touchstone.
A magnificent case with exquisite craftsmanship in superb agate, typical of early 20th-century production and the Art Deco period.
