A very fine miniature portrait of a young woman wearing a diadem and an Empire-style dress.
Painted in gouache on ivory by Charles Berny d'Ouville (1775-1842). Charles Berny d'Ouville, a miniature painter born in Clermont, exhibited his works in the Parisian Salons from 1802 to 1833. The Wallace Collection in London holds a miniature by him entitled "Study of a Young Girl in Classical Drapery" (Source: Benezit).

In a black gutta-percha frame with very fine fluting.

Dated to the early 19th century, circa 1810-1815.
