Sentimental Item: Miniature Portrait Mounted Under Glass And A Mirror In A Case
A delightful keepsake.
Inside an embossed leather case decorated with red roses on both sides, you’ll find a portrait of a young girl mounted behind glass and a small mirror.
The charming young girl wears a “à la bergère” hat lined with carmine pink fabric that matches her dress and is adorned with a rose, along with a ruffled lace choker—accessories that were very much in vogue around 1750–1760.
The square neckline of her dress, edged with lace, is also characteristic of this period, allowing the object to be dated to the third quarter of the 18th century.
Opposite the portrait of this elegant young woman in pastoral attire, is a small oval mercury mirror, showing signs of wear.
The set is in good condition for such a fragile and refined object that has survived two and a half centuries, with signs of age, notably small areas of missing leather on the case near the clasp and hinge.
Case dimensions: 10 x 8 cm
Miniature dimensions: 8.5 x 6.5 cm
