Portrait in fixé sous-verre of the heroic young Joseph Bara, Republican soladat, killed at the age of 14 in a battle against Royalist insurgents during the Vendée War.
From an engraving by François Bonneville (1755 - 1844), painter, draftsman and engraver, who produced many portraits of famous Revolutionary figures. (see photo 3)
This charming portrait is executed using the difficult technique of fixé sous-verre. Some of the colors have faded (particularly on the shako) and there are micro-manicures.
It is sold as is.
In a gilded frame with a thin slit towards the bottom.
