"pomone" Large Plaster Sculpture Art Déco By Josep Dunach, Catalan School

Large sculpture in patinated  plaster representing the nymph Pomona, divinity of fruit and famous for her beauty.
Work from 1921, in the purest Art Deco style, measuring 88cm high, on a 30 X30cm base, signed on the back.
His author is the Catalan sculptor Josep Dunach, born and died in Barcelona (1886 - 1957).
He studied at Barcelona's Llotja, the famous Catalan art school, then moved to Paris in 1904, where he studied at the Beaux-Arts.
It was in Paris that he spent much of his creative life, meeting Rodin, Maillol, befriending Gargallo, exhibiting in Parisian galleries and Salons.
There are many female nudes in his work, in which we can feel the influence of his sculptor contemporaries, Maillol, Bourdelle ...
The theme of Pomona inspired him several times, as can be seen from the photos in the book dedicated to him "Jospep Dunach l'esculor i el seu temps" by Maria Isabel Martin Silvestre (photos 9 and 10)
